SCHEDULES FOR 2009-2010
Thornton High School students were reminded at the time of course selection that changes in their schedules would not be allowed for the 2009-2010 school year. Courses selected at that time will be accommodated to the students’ schedule as much as possible. If a course is not scheduled for that student, alternate selections will be used.
Schedule changes will only be considered for the following criteria:
- Student is enrolled in fewer than 3.0 credits per semester.
- Student has failed a prerequisite for a scheduled course.
- Student has a scheduled course that has been completed during summer school.
- Student has already received credit for a class appearing on his/her schedule.
- Student has a medical reason for dropping a class (doctor’s note required).
IDENTIFICATION (I.D.) BADGES
All high school students shall be required to wear an unaltered visible school issued photo identification card (ID) on a school issued lanyard on their outermost garment above the waist during school hours, or at such times, locations, and activities specifically identified by the building principal.
STUDENT DROP-OFF/PICK-UP
There are two on-campus locations for student pick-up and drop-off. Please follow the expecta-tions listed below when picking up or dropping off your children:
1. North Entrance: The north entrance is located along Washington Street near the Bollman Tech-nical Education Center sign and immediately NORTH of the foot bridge.
- For safety reasons it is imperative that parents keep vehicles moving down the road past the first mobile, turn right and circle around back toward the direction entered.
- Please have children exit vehicles on the side closest to the north end of the building with-out crossing in front of or impeding traffic.
- From 6:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. vehicles are RE-QUIRED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN when exiting onto Washington.
• No left turn will be allowed for the safety of parents, students, staff members, and guests.
2. South Entrance: The south entrance is located just west of Washington Street off of Eppinger Blvd. You will turn west on Eppinger from Washington and then turn north onto Pearl Street.
- All drop-off/pick-up vehicles will then be directed to turn left (west) into the South Parking Lot.
- Please drive forward, allowing for other vehicles behind you to safely enter and drop-off/pick-up as well.
Note:
- The Staff Parking lot along Washington is NOT open to Pick-up/Drop-off.
- The Honors Parking lot is NOT open to Pick-up/Drop-off.
- The Bus Turn-around is NOT open to Pick-up/Drop-off.
YEARBOOK
Twenty years from now your children will be looking back on their school years, and, when they pull out their 2010 yearbook, the memories will be right there, preserved in page after glossy page. Photos show scenes from the classroom, from the halls…people and places leap out at the reader, events and personalities almost forgotten…but not quite. Stories eloquently chronicle a year in the life of Thornton High School and all the scholars, the athletes, the leaders, the personalities, the everyday people that make this school the unique, wonderful place it is.

CANINE SEARCHES
In an effort to discourage the use of drugs and alcohol, we will use periodic surprise canine searches with dogs provided by the area police departments. If a dog stops at a locker, automo-bile, or storage object, school personnel will conduct a search of that item. If any illegal sub-stances are found, normal discipline procedures will be followed. THS continues to take a strong stand against the use of drugs and alcohol. Canine searches are intended primarily to help identify problems so that we can help students find solutions.
GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING SERVICES
There are full-time counselors in the Guidance and Counseling Office willing to speak with students about personal, academic, and/or attendance problems/ concerns. Students and parents need to make an appointment to see a counselor.
Information regarding colleges and universities can be found in the Guidance and Counseling Office at THS. Planning for college admission should begin early. Students should check in the Guidance and Counseling Office for scholarship information; financial aid details are also available.
Students planning to attend college should take the ACT or SAT in the spring of their junior year. Juniors and seniors should consider taking the College Planning Seminar for helpful information.
The College/Career center will offer a multitude of opportunities for THS students to explore plans after they graduate.
