Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members:

Our SAR (School Accountability Report) will soon be released.  Our anticipated Academic Growth score rating will be HIGH for the second straight year.  The Colorado Growth Model provides a common understanding for parents, staff and community of how individual students and groups of students progress from year to year toward state standards based on where each individual student begins. A school can be rated ‘low”, “typical” or “high” growth each year. THS is one of only two Adams 12 District High Schools with a rating of ‘HIGH”. Below is the link to the website if you are interested in more information regarding the Colorado growth model. http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeassess/growthmodel.html

As a school we will continue to focus on initiatives and programs that are making a difference:

  • 95% attendance policy
  • Advisory
  • PLC teams and common formative assessments using Mastery Manager
  • Weekly reporting of grades
  • Positive Behavior Support (PBS).  PBS is a broad range of systemic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing, rather than reacting to, problem behavior with all students.

A number of attendance interventions are in place for the 2009-2010 school year.  Our attendance percentage overall is 89.15% since the start of school.  Our percentage for 2008-2009 was 86.52.

First quarter will end on October 16.  Grades will be distributed to students during advisory period on October 28.  Please be sure to ask your student for their report card.  You can also check your student’s grades weekly on ScholarsMart.  Information to create a family account was sent to your home address in mid-September if you need additional assistance please contact us and we will assist you.

We will not have school on Wednesday, November 11, in honor of Veterans’ Day and will also be closed November 25 – 27 for Thanksgiving.  As we enter the holiday season, it is a time to be thankful for all we have.  Daily I am aware of what a great school THS is.  Our students, parents, faculty and staff make this the only place to be.  Enjoy your holiday season.

In an effort to reduce cost this newsletter has information regarding THS for October/November 2009. In early December we will publish the Dec/January 2010 newsletter with the February/March newsletter being published in early February. The April/May newsletter will have information regarding the close of the 2009-2010 academic year.

As always if you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly

Sincerely,

Janette K. Walters
Principal
