Mr. Smith's Classroom
Distance Learning Plan as of April 1, 2020
Hi everyone! I hope you're all safe, healthy and that you're finding ways to stay active and busy at home. I'm looking forward to our online learning adventure. We'll figure this out together! This is where you can find information about learning expectations, grading, attendance, and office hours for distance learning.
Learning Expectations: Starting Wednesday, April 1st, I will be posting assignments. We will continue to use Google Classroom, as we have all year. If you have any questions you can email email@example.com or request a google meet (face to face meeting).
Here are the Google Classroom if you need them:
1st Hour Government Google Classroom: 3t2ysme
2nd Hour Economics: Google Classroom: sb622iu
4th Hour Economics: Google Classroom: w5f7pz7
7th Hour Economics: Google Classroom: dcikw2p
8th Hour Government: Google Classroom: gydiksr
Assignments: On Wednesday, April 1st I will post a quick check-in assignment on Google Classroom for you to complete by this Friday. Friday afternoons, I will post two assignments for you to complete by Friday of the following week--that gives you the weekend to get started! Both assignments will be due by Friday afternoon by 2:30pm. Each assignment should take about 20 minutes to complete. In order to receive credit and be marked “present” for attendance that week, you must complete both assignments and submit them by 2:30 pm on Friday.
Grading: Grades will be contingent upon students meeting or exceeding the minimum attendance (engagement and task completion) requirements. Students that achieve this will maintain their third quarter grade. Students that exceed this may improve their grades. Students that do not achieve this may see their grades lowered. Students that would like to improve their third quarter grades should work directly with their teacher. In the Remote Learning section of the gradebook, a score of "0" means the student did not meet the minimum expectations, a score of "1" means the student met the minimum expectations, and a score of "2" means the student exceeded the minimum expectations. (if you do not meet the minimum, your grade will decrease. If you meet the minimum, your grade remains the same. If you exceed the minimum expectations, your grade will improve. This means that students need to do at least the minimum to maintain their grade and they need to exceed the minimum to improve their grade). I will post 2 assignments each week that will be the minimum expectation. I will post a third EXTENSION ASSIGNMENT that could count as exceeding the minimum expectation.
Attendance: Attendance will be recorded every Friday after 2:30 pm. To be marked present, students must meet minimum or exceed the engagement and task completion expectations. Students who submit work after the deadline will keep their current attendance and subsequent grade until staff can adjust it the following week.
Office Hours: If you have any questions, please feel to contact me by email at any time! My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. I will also have office hours for two hours every day. During that time, you can email me or in the future I will set up a google hangout meeting and I will be available to respond right away! Otherwise, if you contact me outside of my office hours it may take me hours to respond.
