Behind the Lines: Celebrating our Turf Specialist Gargano

Few roles in Outside Services shape the daily experience of our student-athletes as visibly as the work of Ryan Gargano, our Groundskeeper, Synthetic Turf Specialist, and Field Painter. Ryan is the expert behind the crisp lines and well-maintained fields across Adams 12 Five Star Schools. His expertise also extends to the professional stage, where he serves as a Seasonal Groundskeeper for the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High on weekends.

Proud Alumni

Ryan is a proud product of Adams 12, having attended Woodglen Elementary, Northeast Middle School, and graduating from Horizon High School in 2000. His district career spans nearly 27 years, beginning in the BASE program in 1998, before moving into roles like Campus Supervisor and BASE Director, and finally joining Outside Services in 2022.

Today, Ryan’s role is the perfect blend of his experience and passion. He leads athletic field painting and manages the grooming and upkeep of all natural grass and synthetic turf across all high schools. His skill set is backed by a Sports Turf Manager Certification from Ohio State University and service on the Colorado Sports Turf Managers Association Board from 2021–2023.

Taking His Expertise to the NFL

Ryan's professional relationships opened the door to his work with the Denver Broncos, where he's now in his third season maintaining the game-day field. The work demands precision and technical knowledge, covering everything from painting field markings and setting up sideline areas to ensuring premium field conditions in all weather. During home games, he operates the field-goal net and supports in-game field needs. This professional experience strengthens his work back in the district, and the biggest perk, as Ryan puts it, is being part of an exceptional team.
